Nikon India has released a new lens, a super telephoto lens, the Nikkor Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR.
The Nikkor Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR has a wide focal length ranging from 180mm to 600mm that can be easily shifted between, using a 70-degree turning of the zoom ring. This makes zooming in and out at the right moments easier without having to go through the trouble of switching lenses, thus helping you be fully focussed and immersed into your subject. The focal length can be extended to 840mm or 1200mm using a 1.4x or 2.0x teleconverter. It also has a minimum focus distance of 1.3m at the wide-angle position and a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.25x at the telephoto end, thus allowing the user to capture subjects up close with ease.
Further, the internal zoom mechanism makes for stable framing, which is essential for shooting from a distance. The centre of gravity remains stable and does not shift while zooming. It possesses commendable handling with a fixed front lens and length which reduces the effect of weight-shift while zooming, thus keeping the user’s posture stable while framing a shot. It is also equipped with a lock release button on the hood of the lens which keeps it secure in place.
Four Fn buttons have been provided, making the lens more user-friendly. Users can use these buttons to assign their favourite functions, keeping them handy and allowing them to quickly switch between their preferred function settings without having to toggle with the camera menu in the midst of shooting.
Holding lenses for longer durations of time can be difficult, especially for a super-telephoto lens. The NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR is built to be of a portable size, weighing approximately 1955g, while still covering a broad focal length, thus reducing fatigue during transportation and shooting. The VR (Vibration Reduction) does away with the hyper-focused physical concentration that is required while shooting lest you cause any accidental shaking leading to blurry images. The VR has an effect of up to 5.5 stops. The lens is also equipped with a VR SPORT mode which provides a stable EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) viewing, especially when panning and tracking fast moving objects. It is also free from the unnecessary operational sounds that usually accompany a lens, owing to its smooth and quiet operation of the STM (Stepper Motor) and click-less control ring.
In addition to all the technical features that make the lens convenient to use and provide the user with a better shooting experience, the lens is also highly durable. It is dust-and-drip resistant and users can easily remove any additional dust and dirt with an antifouling fluorine coat on the front lens.
