Sony India has launched its new telephoto zoom lens, the FE 70-200mm f/4 Macro G OSS II. The lens marks Sony’s 50t full-frame in the E-mount series. It covers focal lengths from 70mm to 200mm with a maximum aperture of f/4 and is compatible with the 35mm full-frame α E-mount series.
The lens’ compact and lightweight structure makes it possible to use in a wide range of situations. It has a total length of 149 mm and weighs approximately 794g, excluding the tripod, thus allowing one to shoot a variety of scenarios including sports, landscapes, wildlife and even macro photography. In addition to the high-speed and high-performance AF (automatic focus) that are a characteristic of the G lenses, the Macro G OSS II is the world’s first lens that can offer half macro capability throughout the zoom range, with a maximum magnification of 0.5x throughout. It has been equipped with aspherical lenses that ensure uniformly excellent corner- to-corner resolution and contrast. Additionally, the ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass suppresses chromatic aberration. These abilities can be amplified up to 400mm and life size 1:1 magnification macro shooting throughout the entire shoot range by using a supporting teleconverter, thus allowing you to capture subjects even from a distance in a larger size along with bokeh.
Another one of the lens’ plus points is its fast focus, owing to Sony’s unique XD (extreme dynamic) linear motor that increases the autofocus speed of the lens by up to 20%. Sony claims to have improved the lens’ tracking abilities to approximately twice of its predecessor, thus improving its focus tracking performance during zooming. Users can pair the lens with the α1 body to shoot high-speed bursts at up to 30 frames per second.
The Macro G OSS II is designed to be user-friendly and convenient in its intuitive operative nature and high durability for harsher shooting conditions. It has a focus range limiter and a full-time DMF switch that instantly lets the user switch from AF to MF (manual focus). The lens comes with a detachable tripod mount that provides stability while shooting. The front of the lens has a fluorine coating, thus making it easy to wipe off fingerprints, dust, and oil off the lens surface. It has been built in a dust and water resistant manner thus allowing for a worry-free outdoor shooting. The FE 70-200mm f/4 Macro G OSS II is now available in all Sony stores for ₹1,70,990/-
