DJI and SkyPixel have just unveiled the 9th Annual SkyPixel Photo & Video Contest, marking a thrilling celebration of the boundless creativity in aerial photography and videography. From November 7, 2023, to February 2, 2024, this contest encourages creators to transcend their creative boundaries and pioneer new trends in capturing breathtaking moments from the sky, offering a total prize package worth over $200,000.
“The essence of visual expression revolves around pushing the limits of the mind and nurturing creative thought,” expressed Nan Li, the Photo Director of Southern Weekly.
Now in its 9th year, the SkyPixel Annual Photo & Video Contest continues to be a captivating showcase of moments captured from the sky, promising to spark curiosity, redefine the art of imagery, and immerse the public into the enchanting realm of aerial photography.
A Contest Shaped by Visionaries
The SkyPixel Annual Photo & Video Contest is a tribute to the remarkable stories that have shaped the art of image capture, embodying the creative and daring spirit that defines the field. Over nine years, SkyPixel has embraced its users, shaping a contest that authentically mirrors the desires and aspirations of the global community. With an incredible 260,000 submissions and over a billion views worldwide, SkyPixel has become a platform where exceptional works and photographers gain the recognition they deserve. It’s a testament to the joy of creation, exploration of new trends, and the advancement of aerial photography.
This year’s SkyPixel Photo & Video Contest introduces exciting changes set to elevate the competition. Three new Monthly Competitions have been added, each focusing on a unique category. November spotlights Multi-focal length, December features FPV images, and January highlights Handheld photography. Submissions to the monthly competitions can also contend for both monthly and overall awards in the main competition. Moreover, a new creative category for video creators has been incorporated, providing more opportunities for participants to showcase their talents.
Expert Judging Panel
An enhancement this year includes an impressive panel of judges in the photo and video categories. In photography, seasoned experts such as World Press Photo judge and Senior Editor Wen Huang, Assistant Photography Chief Editor at National Geographic Anne Farrar, Photo Director of Southern Weekly Nan Li, and renowned landscape photographer Daniel Kordan bring their expertise. In the video category, judges include Aerial Director of Photography of “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” Michael Fitzmaurice, award-winning filmmaker Xiaoshi Zhao, prominent figure in the Chinese TVC industry Bing Xi, and celebrated filmmaker Brandon Li.
Inspirational Prizes
In a year filled with excitement, SkyPixel and DJI present a total of 79 awards valued at over $200,000. Winners of the Best Work accolade will receive an Inspire 3 in the video category and a Hasselblad X2D 100C in the photo category, each worth $20,000 and $14,000, respectively. They will be recognized as official SkyPixel Creators and receive a prestigious trophy and an award certificate. Other prizes include top-tier offerings like the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, DJI Air 3, DJI Avata, Osmo Pocket 3, Osmo Action 4, and Osmo Mobile 6, providing more opportunities for participants to expand their creativity.
Details of the SkyPixel 9th Annual Photo & Video Contest
The photo contest includes four categories:
1. The Nature Category – A Force of Nature
2. The Architecture Category – Beauty in Design
3. The Portrait Category – Portrait in the Sky
4. The Sports Category – More Than a Game
Please note: All photos must be shot on a drone, with each image at least 3 MB and a resolution of at least 300 dpi.
The video contest includes five categories:
1. The Nature Category – A Force of Nature
2. The City Category – Urban Inspiration
3. The Travel Category – Explore Destinations
4. The Sports Category – More Than a Game
5. Creative – Break the Mould
Please note: All videos submitted must include no less than 30 seconds of shooting with DJI equipment.
